Let’s face it, the apparel and retail industries don’t have the best environmental records. We’re working hard to find more ways to lessen our environmental impact and leave our global community in a better place than we found it.

About 1% For the Planet

One of the methods we’ve chosen is 1% For the Planet. Co-founded by Yvon Chouinard, the seminal founder of Patagonia, 1% for the Planet helps companies take lead roles in improving the environment, setting examples for the business community and the consumers they interactwith. The key idea is that sustainable business and sustaining the natural environment are not mutually exclusive.

Since 2002, 1% For the Planet has grown to a network of more than 1,200 companies helping fund more than 2,000 environmental organizations by donating one percent of their pre-profit sales. Thus far, that's translated to more than $30 million in funding for organizations in every corner of our global community.

As a member company, Alpaca Collections donates 1% of its annual sales directly to environmentally oriented nonprofits that are approved by 1% For the Planet. Members are encouraged to develop independent, personal relationships with the groups they support. Annually, 1% For the Planet certifies that its members contributed at least 1% of sales to approved environmental groups.

We Need Your Help

Alpaca Collections is actively recruiting each customer to help decide where our 1% should go. With each purchase of a product from Alpacacollections.com, you, our customer, will have the option to choose which environmental company shall receive 1% of your purchase. Here are the three organizations you and Alpaca Collections are supporting:

Ecoan Peru
Ecoan, headquartered in Cusco, is working to reverse deforestation in the Andes of Peru through carefully selected reforestation projects. Seedlings are purchased locally and the community helps in the planting of up to 10,000 indigenous trees in a single day.

Gulf Restoration Network
One of the many environmental organizations working on the front lines to help mitigate the BP oil drilling disaster, their vision is for the Gulf of Mexico to continue to be a natural, economic, and recreational resource that is central to the culture and heritage of five states and three nations.

Sustainable Travel International
Sustainable Travel International is dedicated to providing education and outreach services that help travelers, travel providers and destinations support environmental conservation and protect cultural heritage while promoting cross-cultural understanding and economic development.
